In the summers, when the sun is up early enough for me to see where I‘m going, my morning walk takes me around this pond. It is a wonderfully calming way to begin my day, soaking up some of God‘s creativity. Besides the glow of the early sunshine on the water, I‘ve watched baby ducks as they‘ve grown up in just a few months, seen a huge turtle, and watched a heron on a regular basis. (The geese get pretty agitated if you come too close to their babies, so I am sure to leave plenty of room between us, as I don't want to take the risk of getting pecked to death.)
The pond has a unique beauty with every season, and I consider myself so fortunate to live within walking distance of this quiet sanctuary within the city. I am planning to eventually do several more paintings, creating a series of landscapes from Humboldt Park.
This particular painting comes from a photo I took on one of the last warm Saturdays of the summer. I walked around the pond with my camera taking pictures, while Tim watched Nathan as he peddled his tricycle for one of the first times around the entire pond. It was a great way to spend a summer morning.
