Every April there is a carpet of tiny blue flowers that magically appears in Milwaukee's Humboldt Park on the southeast corner near the pond. I view this as the first sign of spring, so I am always delighted when I notice that the “Scilla” (I think this is the name of these flowers) have returned.
I took this photo on one of the first warm days of spring last year while pushing Nathan through the park in his stroller. I had just returned from a week-long vacation in sunny Mexico, so seeing the park start to come back to life after a gray winter was a wonderful welcome home.
I was especially intrigued by the trunk of this tree as it was significantly more gnarled than the others. I painted it to look like it was found in the pages of a story book.
