#3 in a series of ten oil paintings called “The Northwestern Flowers in Bottles Series.”
The gerbera daisy that posed for this painting was actually red. It came from a lovely flower shop in Bay View, called “Signature Designs.” The photo I took didn’t quite show enough contrast between each petal, so I probably spent as much time staring at the photo as I did painting. I also photographed a yellow flower which I used purely as a color reference as the composition was different.
The bottle was one I purchased to celebrate the beginning of spring several years ago. It came from another local shop called ”Tulipomania,” which is shaped like a red windmill. So in the middle of a residential city block, is a little taste of Holland. Places like this are the very reason I love our community Bay View so much.
At certain times of year, the sun projects big red splashes onto our living room wall as it shines through this cute round bottle.
