This painting was inspired by a sunny summer morning spent at South Shore Park, in Bay View, WI. This thistle was waving in the wind, enjoying the view of the lake it had from the hill on which it grew. I had gone to photograph the Lake itself that day, but this lone weed is what actualy caught my eye that day instead.
A charming couple (who also live in Bay View) bought this painting from me at the South Shore Festival of Art in 2005. They saw it hanging at my show, just yards from where the real thistle had lived. I think they had actually seen it at a few earlier shows I had that year, but finally decided to take it home from the show along the lake.
