It was a perfect (and already steamy hot) summer morning when I captured this beautiful flower soaking up the sun. A warm breeze was blowing as it gently rocked back and forth simply enjoying the moment.
This particular flower was unique in that it was the only one I noticed that was still on the verge of opening up into bloom. Most of the other sunflowers in the field were in full bloom — their big yellow faces smiling with confidence in their own beauty. I actually prefer this pre-bloom stage in which the petals are still so gracefully surrounded by the curling green leaves.
I got the sense that this flower was sunning itself in that field, happy to be alive. It was as if it were looking up towards the heavens with the warmth of the sun on its face, thanking God for a new day to enjoy the beauty of His creation
