This sunflower reseeded itself in my yard last summer. It landed in just the right spot, and grew to be bigger and better than I could have ever imagined. It was at least 12 feet tall — the perfect living sculpture.
We came home late one Sunday night from the Bucktown Arts Fest to find our neighbor outside taking some nighttime photos of this amazing plant that bordered our two yards. His middle-of-the-night creativity inspired me to document the flower as well.
I finally pulled this giant plant out of our yard in April and the trunk was probabably three inches in diamater. As I write, it is May of 2007. This very same sunflower has multiplied itself and is back in my garden again. I am going to have to decide if it stays or goes. They certainly cannot all stay, or we will have a twelve foot jungle on our hands.
