This painting is the second in a series of five sunflowers I'm working on. Each of the five are the same size, and a similar composition.
I took the photo for this painting when we were living in Milwaukee. I planted sunflowers in our small city yard one year, and then every year after that they kept coming back on their own. If I didn't pull them out in the spring, the sunflowers would take over the yard.
I did leave a few that landed in strategic places to grow, as they are such a gorgeous plant. The ones that came back each year were giants!
