The location of this barn is on the corner of Farmview Rd. and Little Texas Rd. in Travelers Rest, South Carolina -- perched on a hill overlooking the Blueridge Mountains.
We live just a few minutes from this beautiful vista, so I had passed it fairly often. Early last spring, however, while I was still recovering from some pretty serious anxiety and physical limitations, I really SAW how gorgeous this scene was, and I knew at that moment that I needed to paint it.
It was the first time in well over a year that I felt that wonderful feeling of inspiration that is strong enough to make me drive home and get my camera. So that's what I did! (I actually dragged my wonderful husband and most patient son along with me, to act as my chauffeurs, since there's really no good place to park near this barn.)
As I traipsed through the ditches that evening, risking possible snake contact with my sandaled feet in that tall grass, (or at least the chance of sliding into the ditch since I was not wearing climbing shoes) I knew then, that I was on the road to recovery and reading to start painting again.
I waited until this fall to begin this piece as I wanted to be sure I could truly capture the beauty of this scene. I completed it after finishing up my series of ten small barns called "Scenes from Indiana Roads."
