This series of small barn and farm landscape oil paintings are meant to capture some of my favorite summer scenery. We've spent many summer vacations driving throughout Northern Indiana, enjoying the serenity of the lush fields.
To me, the beauty of this particular barn is its simplicity. I love the sense of solid strength you get from the straight angles and brilliant red walls.
I painted the crops in a way that allows you to feel how the sun was shining down on them on that warm summer day.
I make it a practice to never go out shooting painting inspiration photos when it's either too hot or too cold for MY liking. The temperature has to be "just right" in order for me to be inspired by my subject matter.
(Just so you know, I'm well aware of that fact that I have very unusual and demanding weather requirements. Fortunately for me, since moving here to Travelers Rest, South Carolina in 2008, our new climate has been a very good match for my taste in weather. Thank goodness for that!)
