"In loving memory of my grandpa, EDWARD FRANK MILLANE, one of the biggest supporters of my painting career. He went home to heaven today, and feels no more pain. March 15, 1923 - June 5, 2009"
On the day my grandpa died, I was scheduled to do a live painting session. So I painted this piece that evening to capture what I thought my grandpa was seeing as he made his peaceful journey to heaven.
The quote above is from the sign I had displayed by my easel as I worked that night.
The thought behind this piece was that everything Heaven is more beautiful than we can ever imagine. I pictured my grandpa floating above a beautiful peaceful sea, towards Jesus who was waiting there to joyfully greet him.
The red area in the middle represents the blood that Christ shed on the cross to die for our sins, and all the love that it took for him to suffer for us. I know that my grandpa trusted in Christ to save him from his sins, so that's how I can be sure he's in heaven.
My grandpa had Parkinson's Disease for the last several years of his life. Although I miss him, I'm so happy that he can walk around easily now and is in no more pain.
