#5 in a series of ten oil paintings called “The Northwestern Flowers in Bottles Series.”
The delphinium I had purchased to photograph for this project was a little washed out. I took the liberty of enhancing the very pale petals, with my blue and lime palette.
When I delivered this series of paintings, and saw them in the area where they will hang, the delphinium seemed especially striking against the chocolate brown wall covering.
These have always been one of my favorite flowers, But I feel our relationship is bittersweet. They are so gorgeous, but there beauty fades too quickly for my taste. Why can’t they bloom all summer? (I bet they will in heaven.)
I’m not quite sure where this bottle had come from, but I’m sure I saved it because of the unique shade of green. Once the bottle was completed at the end, I went back and intensified the green in the flower to tie the entire piece together.
I really like the delicacy of this painting, along with the clearness of the bright green bottle.
