My client for this piece loved a painting I did for our son's nursery before he was born in 2003. It was a single tree, set firmly in the middle of a crazy-colorful sky.
Since I’m seven years farther into my career as a painter, I think this current painting is much more striking than "Tree of Life," since that was one of the very first pieces I had painted since college back in the early '90s.
Brett and his wife have vacationed on the West Coast and loved SanFrancisco. So even though he simply wanted a painting of a big, cool tree, I thought it would be meaningful to him that his painting was inspired by some beautiful scenery I captured with photos during a trip Tim and I took to California several years ago.
