From a field by the road in Kansas City, Missouri.
This painting is the first in a series of five sunflowers. Each of the five canvasses are the same size, and a similar composition.
One very hot summer day while I was visiting some dear friends in Kansas City we passed a field of sunflowers. I'm not sure what it was doing there as it was more of a residential area than the country. We didn't care, we just thought "COOL!" and came back later with the camera to take lots of photos.
I have such great friends who are willing to park their cars and let me take photos of things they know I will paint. This is the third sunflower I've painted from that steamy hot summer day.
After painting these five flowers, I'm actually inspired to grow my own patch of sunflowers. I have the seed bought and the site near our house picked out. Now I just need some sunny hot weather... hurry up summer!
